Repub Policy Comes Home to Roost

China banks told to halt lending to US banks-SCMP | Markets | Markets News | Reuters
BEIJING, Sept 25 (Reuters) - Chinese regulators have told domestic banks to stop interbank lending to U.S. financial institutions to prevent possible losses during the financial crisis, the South China Morning Post reported on Thursday.

The Hong Kong newspaper cited unidentified industry sources as saying the instruction from the China Banking Regulatory Commission (CBRC) applied to interbank lending of all currencies to U.S. banks but not to banks from other countries.

"The decree appears to be Beijing's first attempt to erect defences against the deepening U.S. financial meltdown after the mainland's major lenders reported billions of U.S. dollars in exposure to the credit crisis," the SCMP said.

Socialism for the Top 5% the rest of you can rot - repubs

$700B bailout: The latest - Sep. 21, 2008
The plan: According to the administration's proposal, the federal government would buy up as much as $700 billion of illiquid assets at a deep discount from banks. The program has been expanded beyond just problem mortgages and will now include other problem assets.

The Treasury Department would run the program directly, unlike the savings and loan crisis of the 1990s when Congress created the Resolution Trust Company to spearhead a financial bailout.

Palin is W II

Once Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes - NYTimes.com
Throughout her political career, she has pursued vendettas, fired officials who crossed her and sometimes blurred the line between government and personal grievance, according to a review of public records and interviews with 60 Republican and Democratic legislators and local officials.

Still, Ms. Palin has many supporters. As a two-term mayor she paved roads and built an ice rink, and as governor she has pushed through higher taxes on the oil companies that dominate one-third of the state’s economy. She stirs deep emotions. In Wasilla, many residents display unflagging affection, cheering “our Sarah” and hissing at her critics.

White Privilege

This is Your Nation on White Privilege | Red Room
And finally, white privilege is the only thing that could possibly allow someone to become president when he has voted with George W. Bush 90 percent of the time, even as unemployment is skyrocketing, people are losing their homes, inflation is rising, and the U.S. is increasingly isolated from world opinion, just because white voters aren’t sure about that whole “change” thing. Ya know, it’s just too vague and ill-defined, unlike, say, four more years of the same, which is very concrete and certain…

White privilege is, in short, the problem.

Putting Japan First!

Daily Kos: McCain/Palin: Putting Japan First
Who'd have guessed it'd be Slick Sarah Palin and the Alaskans selling it off? We're all paying through the nose for our energy needs down here, Republicans are wetting themselves over the supposed need for more drilling, and Slick Sarah and her cronies are hawking their America's wares to overseas bidders. Which, not coincidentally, has the effect of hiking the prices Reg'lar Hockey MomsTM pay to, say, heat the seats in their new boondoggle hockey rinks, and, it seems, boosting the dividend checks paid directly to... Alaskan families like Sarah Palin's, who received $3200 per head this year. Wow! I haven't seen a scam this blatant since yesterday, when we found out Slick Sarah was charging Alaska taxpayers $60 a day to sleep in and munch those mooseburgers in her own kitchen.

Japan First!

Daily Kos: McCain/Palin: Putting Japan First
But did you know that in the meantime, they've been preparing to secret all that natural gas out of the country and sell it to the Japanese?
Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) did:

September 2, 2008

The Honorable Samuel W. Bodman
U.S. Department of Energy
1000 Independence Avenue, SW
Washington, DC 20585

Dear Secretary Bodman,

On June 3, 2008 and July 30, 2008 respectively, your Department issued and affirmed an order pursuant to Section 3 of the Natural Gas Act that will allow two major integrated oil companies – ConocoPhillips and Marathon Oil – to export 98.1 billion cubic feet of Alaskan natural gas to Japan and other Pacific Rim countries. This order, which will allow the export of as much natural gas as is used by 1.4 million American families in a year, comes at a time when the President had demanded that the moratoria on oil and gas drilling along our environmentally-sensitive coastal areas be lifted and Americans are being warned that their winter heating bills are going to be dramatically higher. The Administration is trying to have it both ways – arguing that we need to drill everywhere because we don’t have adequate energy supplies, while finding that we have so much energy that big oil companies can export it overseas and keep prices here at home higher than they would otherwise be.

Well, well, well. Energy prices going through the roof in the U.S., supposedly because we're not drilling enough, and the Republicans are selling what we are drilling out the back door! Wish I could say this was a surprise.

Track, 19; Bristol 17; Willow 14; Piper, 7, and baby Trig... two years apart, three years apart, seven years and then seven years apart????

Exclusive photos show Sarah Palin has convinced John McCain
They seem blissfully unaware of the turmoil to come — a looming "troopergate" scandal in Alaska and word that Bristol was unwed and pregnant.

As party insiders complained his vetting process was sloppy and incomplete, McCain defended his pick of the freshman Alaska governor — and said he was sure there were no more skeletons out there.

"The vetting process was completely thorough and I'm grateful for the results," McCain said as surrogates fanned out across the convention with talking points blaming the press for the furor over Bristol Palin's pregnancy.

Yet some highly-placed party operatives reported a sense of unease about Palin, a popular choice among many of the conservatives who dominate the convention roster.

Tell Palin her husband needed snipped ~ 14 years ago, because she obviously can't be trusted with the birth control or the sex education of her daughter.

Do you really want to trust America to her?
