Reuters AlertNet - Security incidents in Iraq, Oct. 3: "Oct 3 (Reuters) - Following are security incidents reported in Iraq on Monday, Oct. 3, as of 0830 GMT.

U.S. and Iraqi forces are battling a Sunni Arab insurgency against the Shi'ite and Kurdish-led government in Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - Iraq's Oil Minister Ibrahim Bahr al-Uloum survived an apparent assassination attempt when a roadside bomb blasted his motorcade, killing three of his escorts and destroying two of the cars in the convoy in the Rashdiya district of northern Baghdad, police and a ministry spokesman said.

HILLA - Two civilians were killed and another six wounded when a bomb detonated inside a restaurant in the town of Hilla, 100 km (62 miles) south of Baghdad, a police source said.

MOSUL - Police said a local official and her son were killed by gunmen in the flashpoint city of Mosul, 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad.

TUZ KHURMATU - Chief of the Fayli Kurds was abducted on Sunday in the northern town of Tuz Khurmatu, southeast of Kirkuk. Member of Parliament Samia Azziz said that Ali Mehdi Saleh's guards were briefly kidnapped with him.
